How to trouble shoot clock movement
Most clocks have a time train and a strike train. The train starts from the spring and goes through all the gears until it comes to the escape wheel. If those particular gears control the clocks gong/chimes it is called the strike train, if it controls the time its the time train. To troubleshoot the movement start examining the gears sequentialy from the spring all the way up to the escape wheel. I like to gently roll each gear back and forth slightly making sure nothing is binding, I am also loking at the pivots on each gear making sure they are not worn, the arbors are straight and the gears are meshing correctly. By following this process it helps to identify issues the movement is having.
